I am so glad we found them they were somewhat in trouble, we helped them safely get to the parking area. Lafayette, Green leaf trail, AMC Greenleaf Hut and then came down through the old bridle path and let me tell you that part was very difficult, rocky and slippery! We started the hike around 12:40 and made it out around 7:30pm we did 9 miles over 4k feet in elevation and it took us 7 hours to finish, it was great that we had flashlights with us it really saved the day.ĭuring our last 35 minutes descend we found 3 ladies from Connecticut they were off course and had no flashlights using their cellphones to light up the trail it was dark already. Just be prepared we went up through the falling water trail, Cloudland Falls, Appalachian national scenic trail, Mt. Lafayette it could get quite cold depending what season of the year you go. You need to be in decent shape! Bring sufficient fluids, snacks, good hiking shoes and layers of breathable clothing, battery bank to recharge your cellphone, a good flashlight and if possible extra shirts because you are going to sweat a lot at least I did. This was my first serious hike and I have to warn you that you do need to be prepared. Simply an astonishing hike! The views are incredible. It is at Profile Lake, which is beautiful with crystal clear water (we saw several crawdads/crayfish in the water). Be sure to stop at the Old Man Historic Site which was more interesting than we expected. My recommendation is to bike uphill (northbound) first, so you can cruise downhill back to your car. We also did some biking on the Franconia Notch bike path. Besides, we had visited Watkins Glen State Park in New York the prior week (the hike in NY is free) and the Flume hike looked very similar. We skipped the Flume Gorge because I'm morally opposed to paying $18/person to go on a 2 mile hike and stand in single file line the whole time. The Basin Cascade trail was fun and gorgeous. Never heard a bird or bug the whole time. We stayed at the campground and didn't find the highway noise bothersome in terms of sleep, but it does drown out nature sounds. For one, a highway runs through the park and is the one road that gets you from place to place. This is a beautiful and unconventional state park. Always call before visiting these places as they might close during extreme weathers. But I heard it's definitely worth visiting.Īll in all, NH is a beauty. Unfortunately we visited after the closing hour and couldn't see those waterfalls. Nobody knew those waterfalls, google maps took us to Flume Gorge and from the pictures hanging outside the Flume Gorge, we realized it's the same. Funny story, when we were thinking of visiting places for fall colors, we saw a beautiful scenic water falls sliding across our TV in Fire TV wallpapers, the title said "Avalanche Waterfalls" but when we visited this state park, we couldn't find it. That's where it has all those views, They say that on a clear day you can even see Canada.įrom there, definitely do visit Flume Gorge. Take the stairs and you'll reach the top. then, you'll reach a building that's 3 stories high. After taking the tramway, you'll have to hike a little - it's a very small hike probably less than 5 minutes. Take the Cannon Mountain tramway at Franconia Notch State Park - it's just fun and has breathtaking views. I'm not sure, but you can check their website.ģ. They have trains starting almost every hour until 1 I guess. They do these guided tours and it's just fun in the train. Cog railway is plain beautiful, you get to enjoy the scenic views without any effort - If driving up with your car is overwhelming, this is definitely the best option.Ģ. Visiting with your own car is adventurous - roads get narrower sometimes, and there is no railing, it is a bit challenging but if you're up for it, then definitely do try. Guided tours are 2 hours from base to base so, it might feel a bit rushed. Washington - There are 3 ways to reach the top: Guided Tours, Cog railway, or your own car. There are so many things to do here and one might get too overwhelmed.
